Linda Schwab
Vilna, Poland
Linda was born December 1935 in Vilna, Poland. In 1942, the Germans invaded their town. After witnessing the killing of the people from the ghetto, she and her family went into hiding in the forest. Linda and her family lived in cave-like conditions. People from the nearby village helped them.
After the war ended, Linda was in a displaced persons camp in Germany for over three years and then came to the U.S. in 1949. For many years Schwab was uncomfortable talking about her Holocaust experience.
Finally, in the early 1990s, at the urging of educators, including professors at Penn State Harrisburg, she publically recounted her story for the first time – to an auditorium of school children at a Christian school in Harrisburg.
