Edith Pick Lowy

Silesia, Czechoslovakia

I was born Czechoslovakia in 1938. During the war I was imprisoned in six labor and concentration camps and was liberated from a death march. I lost my mother in Belzec and my 11 year old brother was shot in Plaszow. After my father’s liberation from Buchenwald, we were reunited and together we returned to Czechoslovakia.

In 1948 I joined the Israeli Army. In 1958, my husband and I, along with our eldest daughter came to the U.S., where our second daughter was born. I became a teacher and lecturer about the Holocaust.

“Treasure each moment you have with your family. Appreciate the freedom you have to make choices. Consider each day as a gift. Remember that each person has feelings. I have seen what hate can do – I could never be a part of it.”
